The Challenge
We were approached about gas compression for a new compression station for transmission service in an existing pipeline. The most unique requirement was to incorporate an antiquated Bristol Babcock PLC system into the controls for the engine drive units. This was a requirement of the customer since they used these systems primarily.
The Solution
Others Design:
Four throw 5.5” stroke reciprocating compressor with standard EF style T shape engine drive cooler design.
SCFM Design:
Two throw 5.5” stroke reciprocating compressor with F style engine drive cooler design.
The Results
SCFM’s proposed design reduced the station building footprint by 60% and the compressor/engine concrete mounting block by 15% resulting in significant construction cost savings of approximately 15%. We were also able to incorporate the Bristol Babcock plc platform allowing the customer to reuse existing infrastructure for an undetermined amount of additional savings.
